Academic Performance and National Assessment Results
At the International School of Budapest, students consistently demonstrate strong academic outcomes across a range of subjects. Results from the Hungarian National Competency Assessments (OKM) show that ISB students regularly perform above national benchmarks.
Strong Performance in Mathematics and Reading
ISB students consistently achieve results above the Hungarian national average in both mathematics and reading comprehension.
Across multiple years:
- ISB results exceed the national average
- Performance is often also above that of Budapest schools with similar student populations
- Strong outcomes are observed across multiple grade levels
These results reflect the solid academic foundation provided by ISB’s international curriculum.
Outstanding English Language Results
As an international school, ISB places a strong emphasis on English language development. This is clearly reflected in the national assessment results.
In recent years:
- Grade 6 students achieved average scores around 1850, compared to approximately 1700 nationally
- Grade 8 students achieved scores close to 1950–2000, significantly above the national average of approximately 1800
These results demonstrate the high level of English proficiency achieved by ISB students and the strength of our English-language learning environment.
Broad Academic Strength
In addition to mathematics and reading, ISB students also perform strongly in a range of other assessed areas, including:

Results in these subjects are generally above national averages, reflecting a well-rounded and balanced academic programme.
Understanding the Results
The Hungarian National Competency Assessments measure key academic skills and provide an external benchmark for schools.
As a relatively small school, ISB cohort sizes are limited, which may lead to some variation between individual years. For this reason, results are best understood as trends over time rather than single-year outcomes.
It is also important to note that not all Hungarian schools participate in all assessment areas (such as English), and comparisons should be interpreted accordingly.

IGCSE Examination Results
Students at the International School of Budapest complete the Cambridge IGCSE examinations, an internationally recognised qualification that prepares them for further academic study.
Highlights from Recent Years
ISB students have achieved strong IGCSE results in recent years, including:
- Pass rates of up to 89%
- Over 50% of grades at 7 or above, significantly above global averages in some cohorts
- A consistent proportion of students achieving high grades across subjects
More recent results show stable outcomes, with an increase in higher grades compared to the previous year.
